Er gwaith caled Treforest i sicrhau fod y gêm ymlaen nos Wener, roedd y cae yn fwy addas i dyfu tatws na chwarae pêl-droed.

Roedd hyn yn amlwg yn yr hanner cyntaf wrth i’r ddau dîm frwydro i chwarae unrhyw fath o bêl-droed dan yr amodau.

‘Scrappy’ oedd hanes yr hanner cyntaf. O ganlyniad, aeth y 45 munud cyntaf heibio heb i'r naill golwr orfod gwneud arbediad o ddifri.

Ond roedd Caio Iwan unwaith eto’n disgleirio yn ganol cae yn dilyn ei berfformiad gwych yn erbyn Llantwit, ac ef aeth agosaf yn yr hanner cyntaf ond crymanodd ei ergyd o bell heibio’r postyn gyda golwr Treforest wedi’i guro er gwaethaf ei ymdrechion i sgrialu ar draws y gôl.

Roedd Cymric yn teimlo y dylai’r dyfarnwr wedi rhoi cic o’r smotyn ar ôl i Dyl Roberts cael ei wrestlo i’r llawr yn y cwrt cosbi, ond nid oedd dwyn perswâd ar y dyfranwr er gwaetha’u hymbilion.

Roedd yr ail hanner i weld i ddilyn yr un trywydd, ond roedd Treforest wedi magu hyder ar ôl llwyddo i gadw hi’n ddi-sgôr tan yr hanner.

Fe wnaeth Cymric yn dda i Cope-io gyda'r amodau / Cymric did well to Cope with the difficult surface...

Fe wnaeth Cymric yn dda i Cope-io gyda'r amodau / Cymric did well to Cope with the difficult surface...

Penderfynodd Stiw wneud newid, gydag Aled Hughes ymlaen am Cope a oedd wedi rhoi ymdrech ddi-flino fel yr arfer.

Bron i’r newid arwain yn syth at gôl gydag Aled yn gorfodi’r gôl-geidwad i arbed yn gampus gyda’i gyffyrddiad cyntaf. Ni welodd amddiffyn Treforest ei rediad hwyr i’r cwrt cosbi gan ei alluogi i daro croesiad Osian Pritchard heibio i’r golwr ond rhywsut llwyddodd i’r golwr gael ei law nôl, o amgylch y bêl a’i throi dros y traws.

Roedd yn amwlg nad oedd Stiw am setlo am bwynt wrth i Dyl Rees ddod ymlaen am Tom Pritchard. Galluogodd y coesau ffres i Cymric ddechrau chwarae’r bêl yn sydyn gyda hyder gan achosi Treforest i barcio’s bws a bwcio fewn am gwely a brecwast yn eu hanner.

Talodd y pwysau, ond daeth y gôl o coaching manual Wimbledon gyda cic-gôl Dyl Roberts yn clirio’r holl chwaraewyr a Ryan David oedd y cyntaf i ymateb wrth iddo lwyddo i gyrraedd y bêl cyn y golwr a phenio’r bêl i gefn y rhwyd.

Roedd Cymric i weld weddol cyfforddus ond daeth y pwysau anochel wrth i Dreforest wthio dynion ymlaen. Ac yn anffodus, achosodd y pwysau i James wneud camgymeriad wrth iddo ruthro allan pan nad oedd angen a chymryd chwaraewr Treforest allan gan adael y dyfarnwr heb dewis ond rhoi cic o’r smotyn.

Gan ystyried fod hyn yn y munudau olaf roedd hi’n edrych fel y buasai Cymric yn dychwelyd efo pwynt siomedig. Ond llwyddodd James i wneud i fyny am ei gamgymeriad wrth iddo hedfan i’w chwith ac arbed y cic o’r smotyn gan sicrhau y buasai’r triphwynt yn dychwelyd i Gaerdydd.

Gêm gwpan nesaf, ond bydd Cymric yn awyddus i gael nôl i’r gynghrair yng Nghefn Cribwr ar yr 20fed ac ymestyn y rhediad buddugoliaethus yn erbyn y tîm ar y brig.

Officials at Treforest had evidently worked very hard on the pitch to get the game on and although the playing surface was not at its best we were all glad to get back playing after the winter break.

However, the difficult playing surface did mean that the first half was a very scrappy affair with both sides struggling to play any sort of football.

While Cymric enjoyed the majority of possession and territory the conditions meant that no clear chances were created. Both Huw Owen and Ryan David enjoyed a few shots from distance, but neither were able to test the goalkeeper.

Caio Iwan went close from distance but his long-range effort sailed agonisingly wide of the target. Cymric did have a reasonable shout for a penalty when Dylan Roberts was wrestled to the ground at a Cymric corner, but the referee was unpersuaded and waved play on.

Treforest did look dangerous on the break and on balance probably played the better football in the first half with both strikers able to link with their midfield successfully.

However, James Hendy in the Cymric goal was not tested with all attempts on target resulting in comfortable saves.

The second half continued in the same manner, but Treforest perhaps beginning to enjoy a greater proportion of territory and possession. The Cymric management sensed the change in momentum and brought Aled Hughes on to replace Steve Cope who had put in a tireless shift.

The change nearly paid off immediately with Aled’s late run in the box enabled him to meet Osian Pritchard’s cross but saw his effort saved in spectacular fashion as the Treforest keeper reacted instinctively to palm the ball over the bar.

Cymric made a further change as Dylan Rees came on for Tom Pritchard and Cymric began to assert their dominance with the Treforest team camped in their own half.

The pressure paid off, but in a rather unexpected manner. A goal kick taken by Dylan Roberts flew over the Treforest defence where Ryan David was waiting and was able to get to the ball before the on-rushing keeper and flick the ball with his head over the keeper and into the empty net to send the Cymric fans into raptures.

Cymric continued to play some decent football considering the conditions but into the last ten minutes Treforest pushed bodies forward. The Cymric defence stood firm dealing with everything thrown at them and it seemed that Cymric were heading for their second win on the bounce but there was some late drama yet to unfold.

James Hendy rushed out to get to a through ball near the byline but unfortunately the Treforest player managed to get there first and place his body between Hendy and the ball. The contact resulted in the Treforest player falling to the ground and the referee pointed to the spot.

However, James Hendy was able to make amends immediately as he flew to his left and palmed away the spot kick. The game finished 1-0 with Cymric glad of the three points as they look to climb the table.
