Ar ôl perfformiad da yn y gêm gwpan yr wythnos flaenorol yn Nhrefforest roedd Cymric yn hyderus y gallent ennill triphwynt holl bwysig yn erbyn Cwmaman a oedd yn mwynhau dechrau cryf iawn i’r tymor.

Yn sgîl y gemau rhyngwladol, yn y bêl gron a’r bêl hirgron (!!), roedd nifer o newidiadau i’r garfan. Roedd croeso nôl i Steff Williams ar ôl cyfnod efo’r ail dîm gan obeithio y gallai fedru manteisio ar unrhyw ofod ar y cae yng Nghwmaman. Er, roedd chwaraewyr Cwmaman yn fywiog ac yn wynebau Cymric o’r dechrau cyntaf.

Roedd yna gyd-chwarae taclus gan Gwmaman, yn enwedig gan y rhif 9 a’r asgellwr chwith. Ond roedd gwaith caled Cymric yn golygu bod cyfleoedd yn brin.

Daeth yr unig gôl hanner ffordd trwy’r hanner cyntaf. Roedd eiliad o ansicrwydd rhwng amddiffyn Cymric a James Hendy yn ddigon i ymosodwr siarp Cwmaman i sicrhau'r triphwynt. Manteisiodd ar bêl hir rhwng yr amddiffyn ac er i James gael cyffyrddiad cryf ar yr ergyd, nid oedd yn ddigonol, ac roedd hi’n 1-0 i Gwmaman.

Roedd yn amlwg bod y gôl wedi taro hyder Cymric ac roedd Cwmaman yn edrych fel dyblu’r sgôr. Ond roedd Rhodri Vince ac Alex Davies yn gryf yn yr amddiffyn a chadwyd y cyfleoedd lawr i ergydion o bellter.

Roedd Cymric yn gweld eu holl chwarae lawr y chwith gydag Ynyr James ac Osian Pritchard i weld yn datblygu partneriaeth effeithiol. Ond yn gyson doedd y bêl olaf ddim yn ddigon cywrain ac yn aml roedd y chwarae yn torri i lawr. Cafodd Rhodri Jones ergyd o bellter ar ddiwedd yr hanner cyntaf ond yn anffodus aeth dros y traws.

Llwyddodd Cymric i gael fwy o’r bêl yn yr ail hanner ond llwyddodd amddiffyn Cwmaman i gyfyngu'r cyfleoedd i Cymric. Daeth Ifan Hafal ymlaen am ei gêm gynta i’r tîm cyntaf ond yn anffodus roedd Cymric yn ei gweld hi'n anodd cael unrhyw fath o wasanaeth iddo. Er, cafodd gyffyrddiad hudolus, dros ben yr amddiffynnwr cyn troi’n sydyn, megis Dennis Bergkamp yn erbyn Newcastle!

Ar ôl hanner cyntaf rhwystredig, roedd Huw Owen yn gweld ychydig mwy o’r bêl yn yr ail hanner ac roedd o a Tom Pritchard yn beryg iawn lawr yr asgell dde. Yn wir, daeth cyfle gorau’r ail hanner ar ôl chwarae da lawr y dde. Chwaraewyd y bêl i’r canol a llwyddodd Ryan David i greu ychydig o ofod iddo fo’i hun a tharo ergyd, ond yn anffodus ni lwyddodd i daro’r targed.

Er chwarae da Cymric yn yr ail hanner, parhaodd Cwmaman i edrych yn beryg, ond roedd Vince ac Alex yn gryf yn y cefn. 1-0 oedd y sgôr terfynol ac ar ddiwrnod arall buasai Cymric wedi medru sicrhau o leiaf pwynt.

Seren y gêm: Rhodri Vince, ond perfformiad da iawn hefyd gan Rhodri Dafydd.

Clwb Cymric arrived at Cwmaman confident after a good display the previous week at Treforest. However, there were a number of changes made to the Cymric squad due to the international matches in Paris and Cardiff. Notably Steffan Williams, who came into the squad after a lengthy sabbatical which has seen him feature on occasion for the second team.

In the opening exchanges Williams sought to find pockets of space between midfield and attack but the Cwmaman team were very lively and gave him no time on the ball. In the first half Cwmaman were marginally the stronger side, although Cymric’s work rate meant there was not much between them.

The only goal of the game came midway through the first half when a hopeful ball over the top caused some confusion between the Cymric defence and James Hendy in goal which allowed the Cwmaman striker to squeeze in between them and his shot was only parried by Hendy and looped over everyone and into the back of the net.

Cymric’s confidence was knocked and Cwmaman enjoyed a decent spell of territory and possession. However the Cymric defence, particularly Rhodri Williams and Alex Davies were solid and gave no chances. Cymric once again started to enjoy some possession, particularly down the left where Ynyr James and Osian Pritchard started to build an effective partnership. However, the quality on the final ball meant that the Cwmaman keeper was not tested.

A corner resulted in Cymric’s best chance in the first half when the ball fell loose in the box but the Cwmaman defender just got there first to clear before Cymric could capitalise. Rhodri Jones also had a shot from distance which just cleared the bar. 1-0 half time.

Cymric shaded the second half, but even with decent possession and territory throughout, clear cut chances were difficult to create.

Ifan Hafal came on for his first team debut to replace Steff Williams who had worked hard on his return to the first team setup. Hafal found it difficult to impose himself on the Cwmaman defence as he was often outnumbered and isolated. But he did pull off a piece of magic, a long ball found him and his touch and spin took him past the flat-footed Cwmaman defender but immediately came up against the other centre half and had to play the ball wide.

Huw Owen featured more in the second half and in partnership with the overlapping Tom Pritchard looked to provide Cymric with the most likely source of a goal. Some good work down the right saw Ryan David find some space on the edge of the area but his attempt was off target.

Cwmaman looked dangerous on the break with the left winger and striker in particular causing some concern, but Williams and Davies stood firm. The game finished 1-0 to Cwmaman and Cymric were disappointed not to come away with a point.
